Biography
PATRICK RODRIGUE is a recognized artist whose works can today be found in numerous private collections in Canada, the United States and even Europe. He has been represented in galleries in Quebec since 1994. Patrick Rodrigue holds a bachelor's degree in graphic communication from Laval University (1988) where he studied with the painter Claude A. Simard. Subsequently, he completed a diploma in drawing and painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto (1992). As part of this second training, he completed a year of independent study specializing in drawing in Florence, Italy (1992), made possible through a scholarship from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (1991). This one-year stay in Tuscany left a lasting imprint on the warm and nuanced color palette that still characterizes the artist's paintings today.
A keen observer of his environment, Patrick Rodrigue has had his workshop in Quebec for around thirty years. The architecture of the city center and the lively streets stimulate him on a daily basis. His inspiration comes from public places, the roofs of old neighborhoods, skylights, backyards, trees and flower boxes, as well as the omnipresent city dwellers. More recently, Patrick is captivated by the incessant drift of the ice on the river in front of Quebec during the winter season. Their contemplation inspires him with fantasies straight out of his imagination which he integrates into compositions serving as fictions on ice.
Patrick Rodrigue's paintings are characterized by their dynamic composition in which the notions of space and depth are always predominant. The points of view are original, the design is precise and the perspectives are strikingly defined. The refinement and luminosity of their colors are particularly appreciated.
